Purpose of the plugin

In the standard version of Shopware, images are not automatically optimised or served in modern formats. Large image files can lead to longer loading times and have a negative impact on performance, user experience and search engine optimisation.

We have therefore developed a plugin that seamlessly integrates image optimisation into Shopware and offers the following features:

Automatic image optimisation and conversion
Images in JPEG, PNG and GIF formats can be automatically converted in the background to modern formats such as WebP and AVIF. You can specify whether the conversion should always take place or only when a smaller file size is achieved. Additionally, image optimisation can be started manually to process existing images retrospectively.

Flexible compression and quality control
Various compression types are available for image optimisation. You can choose between automatic, lossless or reduced compression to achieve the optimal balance between image quality and file size. Furthermore, the quality of the generated WebP and AVIF images can be adjusted individually. Higher quality settings ensure better image quality but result in larger files.

Overview and status in the admin area
The admin area clearly displays the current conversion status and available image formats. A detailed statistics

Image optimisation

  1. WebP conversion
Determines whether images are always converted, only when the file size is smaller, or not at all.
  2. Compression type (lossless or reduced)
Choose between automatic optimisation, best possible quality or smaller file size.
  3. Quality of WebP images
Determines the balance between image quality and file size. Higher values ensure better quality but increase the file size.
  4. AVIF conversion
Determines whether images are always converted, only when the file size is smaller, or not at all.
  5. Quality of AVIF images
Determines the balance between image quality and file size. Higher values ensure better quality but increase the file size.
  6. Image types to convert
Selection of image formats to be optimised (JPEG, PNG, GIF)

Image conversion status

  1. Available image conversions
Indicates whether WebP and AVIF are supported, including the necessary server requirements.
  2. Conversion statistics
Overview of processed, converted and skipped images.
  3. Manual conversion
Allows you to manually start image optimisation for existing images.
