Extension of the Shopware Sitemap.xml with unavailable products marked as discontinued Products remain discoverable via Google & others, even if they can no longer be purchased in the shop. Works for different scenarios such as archived items, seasonal products or products with later availability.
In the Shopware standard, products that are no longer available and are marked as discontinued are automatically removed from the Sitemap.xml. This makes sense if products are permanently unavailable – but it has disadvantages when products remain relevant for customers or search engines.
That’s why we have developed a plugin offering the following advantages:
Keep unavailable products in the sitemap
Products marked as discontinued remain in the Sitemap.xml even when they are temporarily unavailable. This ensures that search engines can continue to index these pages and customers can still find them via Google & others.
Archived and informational products remain discoverable
Especially for archived items – for example, when user manuals, spare parts or accessories are linked – product pages remain accessible and can continue to be used.
Seasonal products remain visible
Products that are only sold at certain times (e.g. Christmas items or garden products) may not be available for purchase in the off-season, but they remain indexed by search engines.
Products with later availability
Even if the delivery time is unknown or an item is currently out of stock, it is worthwhile keeping the page in the sitemap – as soon as stock is replenished, the product is immediately available and already listed in the search engines.
